Rock star Sebastian Bach’s recent stint on the ABC reality show “Sing
Your Face Off” was the perfect piece to add to his reality resume. Before the ex-Skid
Row front man’s debut on the six-episode talent competition that had him
channeling the identity of various music
icons, Bach posted backstage footage from the show to his Instagram account, where it looked like
he was being transformed into Elvis. Anyone for a heavy metal "Hound Dog?”
In a truly bizarre casting lineup, the judges for the show included
Debbie Gibson, Darrell Hammond, and RuPaul, while Baz's competition was Lovitz,
basketball player Landry Fields, Disney star China Anne McClain, and TV
host/actress Lisa Rinna. On paper, the rocker was a shoe-in. Besides, how can
you not root for a guy whose latest CD is called "ABachalypse
Now"?
But after channeling everyone from Lady Gaga to Adam Levine to Willie Nelson and Freddie Mercury,
Bach was given his walking papers, thanks in part to ‘80s pop princess Gibson’s
harsh critiques.
While he didn’t totally save face on “Sing Your Face Off,” the
small screen is nothing new for this rocker, especially the reality genre. Check
out some of Sebastian Bach's top TV moments.
“Gilmore Girls”
Sebastian's recurring stint on The WB drama "Gilmore
Girls" wasn't a huge stretch: He played guitar player Gil in Lane Kim's
fictional garage band Hep Alien, jamming cover tunes at events all over Stars Hollow. But this gig was a game
changer for the real-life rock star. In 2012, Sebastian told the Chicago Tribune, "I get noticed for different
things I've done in different areas of town. If I'm in a rock club, it'll be
Skid Row. If I'm in a mall, it's the 'Gilmore Girls.' Teenagers will come up to
me, and they'll be like, 'Aren't you that guy?' And I'll be like, 'Uh, which
guy are you talking about?'"
“Californication”
In 2013, Sebastian turned up as a rock guitarist again; this
time on Showtime's "Californication." In the episode "Dead Rocks
Stars," he played a dead rocker who came back to life via a supersize
hologram at his funeral. Yeah, we know, 2Pac and Coachella did it first, but
Bach's late rockstar alter ego did deliver this doozy:
"If you're seeing me in this badass holographic form, that means I must be
dead, which totally sucks for me."
“SpongeBob
Squarepants”
In 2010, the rockstar got animated for the "SpongeBob
SquarePants" cartoon special "The Clash of Triton," voicing the
bad boy son of Queen Amphitrite and King Neptune. (His posh mom was even played
by Victoria Beckham!) Of his kiddie cartoon stint, the singer told Legendary Rock Interviews, "It is
pretty cool to have 'SpongeBob' on the resume… so was 'Robot Chicken.' I've
done a lot of interesting stuff like that, which I never really dreamed I would
do but ended up being a lot of fun."
“Celebrity Fit Club”
Sebastian sweated it out on Season 7 of VH1's "Celebrity
Fit Club" back in 2010, as trainer Harvey Walden IV barked boot-camp
orders at him and fellow out-of-shape celebs Bobby Brown, Nicole Eggert, K-Fed, andK-Fed's
first baby mama. The reason for the rocker's boot-camp blitz? "Nobody
likes a fat rockstar," Bach said.
"Gone Country"
In 2008, Sebastian proved that he's a little bit country, a
little bit rock 'n' roll when he was crowned the Season 2 winner of the CMT
reality show "Gone Country," beating out fellow competitors Chris
Kirkpatrick, Irene Cara, Lorenzo Lamas, Sean Young, Jermaine Jackson, and
Mikalah Gordon for the title. Host John Rich told The Boot, "[Sebastian] truly understands
what makes a great country song, and his singing ability is still off the
charts. I'm very proud of him going country! [He] put his real life experiences
into his song. 'Battle with the Bottle' deals with the challenges he faces in
his life on a daily basis, and when your music imitates your life, that's where
great country music happens."
"I Married Sebastian Bach"
VH1's "I Married Sebastian Bach" went behind the
scenes with the rocker and his then-wife, Maria, back in 2004. While the former
Mrs. Bach was both Sebastian's wife and manager, the rockstar revealed that in
times of frustration he'd shout, "I don't have a wife or a f---ing
manager!"
“SuperGroup”
And talk about a super group! In 2006, Sebastian teamed up with
rock icons Ted Nugent, Jason Bonham, Scott Ian, and Evan Seinfeld for a VH1
reality show that had them forming the ultimate hard rock band. While the music
came easy, naming the group was another thing. The band toyed with everything
from FIST to Rawdog to Savage Animal before deciding on Damnocracy, but it
could have been worse: Nugent came up with "Hunting Deer With a Bow and
Arrow," a name that doesn't roll off anybody's tongue.
