The Worst TV Show Titles Ever

What's in a name? When it comes to television shows, a name can sometimes make it or break it. And while you can't always judge a TV show by its title, sometimes it can be downright misleading. Or just really, really bad. Here's a look back at some of the worst TV show titles ever.

Cougar Town
This post-Friends Courteney Cox-vehicle was saddled with a bad title from the get-go -- and show creator Bill Lawrence has taken plenty of flack for it.  Lawrence has said the show's controversial title was based on "a pop culture joke of the moment." But "Cougar Town" quickly switched gears from being a show about lusty 40-something-year-old women to a show about -- friends. Just add alcohol.

My Mother the Car
Not only was this a terrible title for a show, it was a terrible idea for a show. You have to dig way back into the 1960s archives to recall this series about a lawyer (Jerry Van Dyke) who buys an antique car that turns out to be the reincarnation of his deceased mother.  (She talks to him through the car radio). This show was yanked off the lot after one season.

These Friends Of Mine
This show title wasn't a horrible one, it was just the wrong one. In a season 2 overhaul of the show, the title was changed from "These Friends of Mine" to simply "Ellen." And book store owner Ellen Morgan (Ellen DeGeneres) lost a slew of friends in the aftermath of the show's title switcheroo after a bunch of characters got their pink slips. Why not just start from scratch and say it was a totally different series? No matter. By the fall of 1994 we'd have a whole new cast of "Friends" to watch.

Cop Rock
A musical police drama?  Even after "Miami Vice," viewers didn't know what to make of this badly titled police procedural, and they dissed the entire premise of characters breaking into song. Two decades later, “Glee” changed all that, but "Cop Rock" was there first.

Two Guys, A Girl and a Pizza Place
This show about three college-age friends started out with them all working at a pizza shop, hence the rather limiting title. But after two seasons, ABC put the kibosh on the pizza place and that part of the show's long-winded title and changed it to "Two Guys and a Girl."

Shasta McNasty
This show about three slackers in a hip hop band only lasted one season. And indeed, the show's terrible title -- which referred to the main characters' band's name -- may have sealed this show's fate. Producers tried dropping the "McNasty" from the title mid-way through the series' run, but the damage had already been done; viewers had had enough of these nasty boys.
It’s Like, You Know…
This series about a freelance journalist's relo to Los Angeles boasted a running joke about actress Jennifer Grey -- and an annoying Valley Girl title that made no sense. Can you build a series around a group of spoiled rich kids and Jennifer Grey's face-altering rhinoplasty? The answer is, like, a big fat no.

Selfie
Blinked one in 2014 and you missed this short-lived ABC comedy. Need I say more?
